Drawing is a constant in Sonja Gangl’s artistic practice and also in her current exhibition “I borrowed optimism from the past” at Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien. In connection to this, we invite you to an evening of drawing, together with the young artists Sarah Schmidt and Oskar Wlaschitz! In a cozy atmosphere, everyone is encouraged to try their luck with pen and paper: the whole floor of the foyer turns into an open canvas that is just waiting for your ideas. To warm up your wrists, the artists will provide experimental drawing exercises. Later, we will turn the whole piece into a big collaborative work. Special skills are not required. We will provide pens and drinks.
Sarah Maria Schmidt (*1994 Judenburg, lives in Linz) studies teaching art and media at the university of art in Linz since 2014. Her artistic works result from everyday observations of human interaction, primarily in urban spaces. Areas of tension that arise from different lifeworlds colliding, are turned into drawings in sketchbooks and later turn into installations or paintings. Her subjective view on her environment is mirrored in form, narrative and composition. The results include comics, stickers, painting, prints and installation.
Oskar Wlaschitz (*1980 Vienna, lives in Linz) studies teaching art, handicrafts and media at the university of art in Linz since 2013. Since 2015 he realizes pedagogical projects for Kultur und Spielraum e.V., München. Since 2016 he organizes Drink and Draw sessions at different locations. In his artistic practice, he tries to explore the potentials of drawing in communal, cooperative as well as collective processes of creation.
