Michael Lanz (head of the Institute and head of the Industrial Design program, FH Joanneum, Graz; managing partner at designaffairs, Munich) is a product designer and the managing partner at designaffairs Munich. Besides industrial design, his research focuses on trends , as well as the development and implementation of color and material concepts. Since April 2014 Lanz has been the head of the Institute and head of the program Product and Transportation Design at the Joanneum, the well-known international university of applied sciences in Graz, Austria. As part of the program accompanying the exhibition DIDING An Interior That Remains an Exterior, Lanz will give a talk about design processes in general, referring in particular to new materials and the intense process of inventing new forms and shapes.
During his time at designaffairs, Michael Lanz received several prestigious design awards, including the IF gold and “Best of Category” design award, as well as the red dot design award. He is frequently a jury member for several well-known design competitions, such as the IF design award and the German Design Award. Some of his designs are part of the world-famous “Neue Sammlung” at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Germany.
