"Glitch Textiles" is a cutting edge concept brand founded in 2011 by Brooklyn artist, Phillip David Stearns (Year of the Glitch, High Voltage Image Making) with the aim of exploring the intersections of textiles and digital art. By transcoding glitch-es in the cold, hard logic of digital circuits into soft, warm textiles, Glitch Textiles produces compelling tactile and functional artworks: fabrics that bridge the digital/virtual divide while simultaneously connecting the histories of woven image making and computer technologies.
Much of our daily lives is governed by algorithms. These algorithms act on data generated by our presence in highly networked environments saturated with digital technologies. By making data in its many forms both visible and tangible, Glitch Textiles seeks to create products that generate awareness and open dialogs. We believe that a critical engagement with science and technology is crucial for determining how we live today and in the future.
In a Skype lecture, Phillip David Stearns will elaborate the history and development of „Glitch Textiles“ and will try a look on possible future textile materials.
