The highly successful action HELP, initiated by Univ. Prof. Dr. Karlheinz Tscheliessnigg and Richard Kriesche in 2006, is now being innovatively continued through collaboration between Kriesche and the Styrian Hospitals Limited Liability Company (Kages) in Graz, with its artistic interpretations presented at the interface between public and private realms. “Aesthetics in the Extreme” describes Kriesche’s interventions into the design of patient rooms, striving to establish an aesthetic ambient environment that will promote the well-being of the patients, accelerate the healing process, and ultimately enhance, through this redesign of patient rooms, the quality of the workplace for medical personnel, especially the nursing staff.
“. . . the MEDVISION 2030 at the LKH Graz has, among other things, identified the theme of ‘ambient living’ for the area of ‘Technology and Medicine,’ acknowledging it as an important component in future hospitals. Accordingly, in this context, light and color will exercise influence over healing processes, and, above all, over the patients’ neurological and psychiatric failures in the perioperative phase. The previous year’s presentation dealing with surgery and orthopedics, ‘Health in the Context of Light and Color,’ has already pointed the way forward.”
