Tina Frank (*1970 Tulln, lives in Vienna) will project a new audio-visual installation onto the foyer and the outside area of the Künstlerhaus in the spring of 2019. Frank’s artistic interest revolves around visual culture, data visualization and synesthetic experiments. With intensive form and color compositions, she playfully questions the boundaries of human perception. Special emphasis thereby is the visualization of music, as she regularly cooperates with sound artists. For the project in Graz, she will realize a collaboration with Alex Murray-Leslie, founding member of internationally renowned artist-band “Chicks on Speed” and researcher in the fields of design and digital music. The immersive sound-image-installation is inspired by US-American feminist theorist Donna J. Haraway and subjects alternative narratives and perspectives to negotiation.

What if everything was different? The immersive image-sound-installation by the artists Tina Frank and Alex Murray-Leslie is a thought experiment that questions the borders of or thoughts through color-, form- and image-projections.

The brevity of our lives does not allow us to view the consequences of our actions. That we thereby do harm to our planet and even render it uninhabitable for future generations is a strong belief of Tina Frank’s. In “What if” the artists invite us to change our – visual as well as narrative - perspectives on the world: What would the (living-) space look like, if it was inhabited only by mosses and ferns? How would our every day life look like free from patriarchal structures? What if feminists ruled the world? Inspired by feminist theorist Donna J. Haraway, Tina Frank and Alex Murray-Leslie turn the Künstlerhaus into a habitat of glass for fictional as well as political reflections, which cannot defy a warning to the world: People (who live) in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
