In the frame of the exhibition “On Tunnels and Corridors” (Kunstverein Medienturm, 2006), a mazy, twenty-seven meter long corridor winds across the spaces of Kunstverein Medienturm, triggering a claustrophobia-like state, activated by nervously flickering neon light. Gerold Tagwerker suggests an escape route through a tunnel-like corridor, referring to corridor scenes of cinematic catastrophe scenarios. On the outside of this accessible sculpture, several video works by Siegrun Appelt are presented, featuring well-known tunnel situations and abstract bottlenecks, but also mysterious and frightening light situations in dark and dimly lit night-time parkways. The interwoven, illusionist space structure opens up an imaginary cinematic set-up for the video CORRIDOR that is accompanied by Martin Brandlmayr’s suggestive drone-like sound.
