Tina Frank, the Vienna-based pioneer in the realm of graphic design has already worked for some time with the German sound-artist Florian Hecker, who composes insistent pieces by discussing in detail unusual audio-compilations in the field of the crossover of Serious Music and Electronica. Her current project “grounded“ ranges on the borderline of two- to three-dimensional presentation. The sound attempts to withdraw the images from their two-dimensional planeness; still a video-still never can elude its initial dimension. The space dissolves and leaves its trace in formalistic, graphical approaches, shades of a dimension which could not have been existent.
Since June 2004, the series Medienturm SHOWS runs on Sundays at the Ovalhalle of the Quartier 21 / MQ Wien. Experimental artists' videos which discuss the dynamic and manifold relation of image and sound in the field of contemporary media/art are shown. The openings feature audio-visual live acts and comprehensive statements of invited media theorists. Each work is published as artist's contribution in a limited edition.
